It's funny how things have a funny way of coming back to us. My roommate just recently brought her guitar to campus, and I decided I wanted to learn to play. I had never tried playing guitar, but I figured how hard could it be since I've played piano for 12 years right? Wrong. My hands were too small to even do some of the basic chords. I gave up shortly after we got the guitar out of the case. After that however, I realized that I missed playing piano. It was a sort of stress reliever for me. I never thought I would miss having the freedom to just walk into my living room back home and play whenever I wanted. I told my roommate this, and she told me that there were practice rooms in the Art Building on campus that anyone could use, and she insisted that I teach her how to play, So, this evening I decided to not do homework, but explore the Art Building instead. After finding a practice room, I got to sit and play on a baby grand piano. I have to admit that I was a little surprised that I could play songs from memory. It's a weird feeling- not being able to picture the sheet music in my mind, yet my fingers know the exact keys to play. Muscle memory at its' finest. The song River Flows In You will always be a song I can play- having played it countless times trying to perfect every aspect of the song. I admit that I had some nostalgia while playing too, wondering why when I finished, I didn't hear my mom say "Mary, play that again!". College has been hard adjusting to new living conditions 2 hours away from my parents, but the little things, like playing the piano,, can bring a little piece of home to you.

I really enjoyed reading this. This reminded me of how much I used to love listening to my sister play the piano or me playing Christmas songs every year :) You are SO talented and that was a beautiful song.
